Experience the thunder of Rwandan drumming, drum compositions played loudly with sticks on big drums. Exquisite praise songs, the horn and drum band - Tutsi-led but consisting largely of Twa pygmies - for the graceful intore dance. Hugh Tracey was given permission to record in 1952 at the court of the last-but-one Mwami of Ruanda, Mutara III Rudahigwa, a place of absolute power and yet beautiful music.

about

The royal drum ensemble started each day with a piece to wake the Mwami, the all-powerful Tutsi 'shepherd-king', and continued to announce to a wide area around the palace the progression of the king's program throughout the day. This a great classical African music. Plus drum and horn ensembles, praise songs, and a musical bow track for royal entertainment.
